This pouch was inspired by two symbols: the pentagram and roses. The pentagram’s meaning is widely varies but it often represents the four elements: earth wind, fire, water and the fifth element of spirit; it is also often associated with the Goddess, this was more the angle I took.
The central pentagram is interwoven and made of roses branches, with the odd thorn here and there and a rosebud at its centre. The pentagram is surrounded by rose flowers and leaves. I chose to add roses to the design as to me these are a perfect natural representation of the Goddess: soft and beautiful (flower) but also harsh and protective (thorns). Roses are also associated with the Greek Goddess of Love Aphrodite.
I hand printed these purple taffeta pouches with a hand carved pentagram and roses stamp on my etching press. I finished the pouches with cream, grey, purple and moss green poly-satin ribbons, large pearly plastic beads, smaller pearly purple and green plastic beads and metal and iridescent purple glass bead charms made by myself. The pouches are finished with iridescent cream sequin band and are lined with moss green poly-satin.
