“Fertility Hares” was originally created in 2014 by Imogen Smid using acrylic paint. It was inspired by the use of hares and rabbits as Fertility symbols throughout different cultures. The symbols used for the main inspiration were the Celtic Moon Gazing Hares, the Celtic celebration Ostara, the Easter Bunny, and the Aztec deity groups Ometotchtli and Centzontotochtin.
The piece was originally created to accompany a blog post on “Fertility in the form of Hares and Rabbits“.
